Colombia was stoned by a string of 24 coordinated bombs and gunshots that killed at least seven people throughout the south -west country on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), deepening a security crisis that traveled around the Andean country.

The attacks hit Cali targets-the third-country city of the country-and some neighboring towns, hitting police posts, municipal buildings and civilian targets.

National policeman Carlos Fernando Triana said the assailants – allegedly a local guerrilla group – was attacked using car bombs, motorcycle bombs, rifle fire and a suspected drone.

“Two policemen have died, and a number of members of the public are also dead,” he said. Police later placed the toll on seven dead and 28 wounded.

24 coordinated attacks on Jolt Columbia, at least 7 died of increased violence

Colombia was stoned by a string of 24 coordinated bombs and gunshots that killed at least seven people throughout the south -west country on Tuesday, deepening a security crisis that surrounded the Andean country.

In Cali and the towns of Villa Rica, Guachinte and Corinth, AFP Journalists have witnessed the voluntary collapse of vehicle bombs surrounded by scorched remains and damaged buildings.

Attacks came days after a bad attempt of murder of a Bogota presidential candidate that had put the country.

Many Colombians today are afraid of returning to violence in the 1980s and 1990s, when cartel attacks, guerrilla violence and political killings are common.

Internal minister Armando Benedetti said the government received an unspecified “proof” of possible guerrilla involvement in attacking Senator Miguel Uribe.

‘Well-coordinated offensive’

In Corinthian town, resident Luz Amparo was at home when the gunfire exploded Tuesday Tuesday (June 10, 2025).

“We thought it was an earthquake,” he said AFP. “My husband said ‘No, they were shooting.'”

His phone began to shower from the hook and he went to check his store. As he walked around the corner, the neighbors began to look in his direction.

“Everything is that -level,” he said.

Police and experts blame the attacks in a dissident faction of the former powerful Farc Gererrilla Group.

Security expert Elizabeth Dickinson of the International Crisis Group said the attacks were likely the work of a group known as the Central General Staff (EMC).

“This is a particularly well -defined offensive. It shows the capacity built by the group” he said AFP.

“And I think it’s surprising that it shows their ability to perform operations in the Cali Metropolitan area.”

President Gustavo Petro’s efforts to reach a peace deal with the EMC and other armed groups have repeatedly failed.

Ms. Dickinson said the group could try to stop an ongoing military operation reported that the veteran of the group was injured or killed, known as “Ivan Mordisco.”

“They are trying to raise the cost of the military initiative for the government,” Ms. Dickinson said.

In a statement on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), the EMC warned the public to stay away from the military and police installation, but stopped claiming responsibility.

The attacks arrived three days after conservative senator Uribe, 39, was shot twice in the head in the near range of an alleged hitman while campaigning in capital.

A 15-year-old suspect asked for “non-guilty” on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) to carry out the killing attempt. The government believes he is a hired gun.

That attack was stopped by the Colombians, prompting the speculation about who was responsible and raised questions about the President’s response.

Mr. Petro took on social media to think that the hit was ordered by an international “mafia” and to claim that Mr Uribe’s security detail was suspicious that he was reduced the day he was shot.
